How to Start Reading Books

Many of us dream of becoming readers but often feel lost about where to begin. Reading doesn’t have to feel like a chore-it can be one of the most enjoyable and calming habits to build. If you’re wondering how to start, here are a few simple steps:

1. Pick the Right Book

The journey starts with choosing something that excites you. Don’t pressure yourself with heavy classics right away. Instead, try a short, engaging novel or a collection of stories in a genre you already love-whether it’s romance, mystery, or fantasy.

2. Start Small

Reading is about consistency, not speed. Begin with just 10–15 minutes a day. Carry a book with you and read in short pockets of time- while waiting for a bus or during your tea break.

3. Make It a Ritual

Set a specific time and place to read daily. Maybe before bed or early in the morning. Keep distractions away so you can enjoy the flow of the story.

4. Interact with the Book

Highlight lines that inspire you, or note down thoughts in a journal. This makes reading more personal and memorable.

5. Don’t Force Yourself

If you don’t like a book, set it aside. Not every book will connect with you—and that’s okay. Reading should be a joy, not a burden.

The magic of reading lies in the way it transports us into new worlds and helps us discover more about ourselves. Start small, stay curious, and slowly, books will become your best companions.
